The book is very basic – so basic it doesn’t feel like I took anything from the text that I didn’t already know.

Groundswell is a book by Forrester Research executives Charlene Li and Josh Bernoff that focuses on how companies can take advantage of emerging social technologies. It has many bare bone basic cbarlene about social media sites and feels like a “how to” guide for corporate head-honchos. Groundswell describes how this can happen in any organization, focusing on the human issues, which is the hard part.

It was even more incredible to find that YouTube, Twitter, and Facebook were hardly mentioned at all. I am getting much of the essential information from my course, but independent study really rounds it out.
It’s written in their language but remains quite readable. Most companies see it as a threat. They’re defining you on Wikipedia and ganging up on you on Facebook. But I’ll have to revisit the actual text for the updated stats. Estimate the ROI return on investment.

This book is aimed at company people who may not know much about the Social Web, other than they want to be in on the action. I’ve been in the web business almost 10 years now, and I have to say that this is not the greatest book for someone that already has technical knowledge. It doesn’t promise to give you the “quick fix” it actually points out that patience is criticalbut encourages understanding of the different groups of people by their social media use, the various objectives that companies can work towards, and how social media can impact a company from the outside and from within.
